Pope Benedict XVI is on a middle-eastern tour, and by the press coverage coming out of the area things don’t seem to be going as well as the Pope may have hoped. This Yahoo News article seems to reflect the Pope’s and middle-eastern people’s grief: the Pope was allegedly overtly lukewarm with issues involving the Holocaust while speaking in Israel at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, an evening ceremony drifted into political diatribes involving the palestinian-israeli conflict, etc. It appears that much of the German Pope’s past lingers with him, at least when it comes to things like once belonging to the Hitler Youth, and this is as unfortunate as it is understandable. This naturally raises the question of what forces are at work regarding the Pope? Your reactions?
