How many of you knew the Salvation Army is not just a thrift store where you can find incredible deals or a mission outreach program to help provide basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter to the needy? It is also a branch of the Christian Church operated in a military fashion.
Their church’s mission statement is “The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by love for God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.”
The Salvation Army Church located at 1108 W Ash in Columbia is a place of worship, home to many members, referred to as Soldiers. The ordained ministers are Commissioned Officers who dedicate their lives to the work of the Army.
The Salvationist Church in Columbia offers a wide variety of programs to people of their faith. There is Sunday School available for all ages and bible studies for youth and adult. The Junior Soldier program is made up of members of the Salvation Army and they study to learn about the Bible and teachings of the Army. The Corps of Cadets involves teenagers with the same mission to learn.
There are also character building programs for young girls. Moonbeams are ages 5 and 6, Sunbeams are grades 1-5 and Girl Guards are ages 6-12. There is a similar program for boys called the Adventure Corps. These organizations operate similar to Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts; there are certain requirements to earn badges and activities to complete.
This could be a great opportunity for anyone out in the community looking for a spiritual home.
