On September 28, Mid-Missouri Pagan Pride will hold the sixth annual Pagan Pride Day in Peace Park. The event is co-sponsored by the UMC Multicultural Center, Hearthfires of Mid-Missouri, Ozark Avalon Church of Nature, Peace Nook, SoCo Night Club, and Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream.
The purpose of the event is to promote religious tolerance, to educate the public about paganism, and to raise food and donations for charity.
The keynote speakers for the event are Joyce and River Higginbotham. The Higginbothams are the authors of “Paganism: An Introduction to Earth-Centered Religions” and “Pagan Spirituality.”
There will be live entertainment by Songbyrd, The Deva Dancers, Moon Holloran-Leady, and Dances of Universal Peace. There will also be vendors, information, and activities for kids. Admission is free but attendees are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item for the local homeless shelter or pet food for Second Chance No-Kill Shelter.
Vendors will be selling antiques, folk art, plants, books, food, soaps, gifts, medicine, jewelry, and more. Tarot readings will also be available.
People of all faiths are invited to attend to promote religious tolerance and to learn more about paganism.

Did you know…
The pentagram is a common symbol in the Pagan religion, much like the cross is for the Christian religion. According to the information packet about Mid-Missouri Pagan Pride, the pentagram represents “a human within the universe, the five magickal elements, and the Divine Feminine.” The pentagram has nothing whatsoever to do with the devil or satanism.
