Ok, so the kick-off begins:
Tonight at Jesse Wrench Auditorium (actually a room in Memorial, not to be confused with the building called Jesse)…
at 7:00
is the first movie of the film series that MU’s Center on Religion and the Professions (CORP) is hosting.
The series is about exploring the intersection of “Spirituality & Health.” According to a news release from CORP, the head of their research team Dr. George Johnstone said that many health care professionals have not felt comfortable discussing religious matters with their patients.
Why does that matter, you may ask? Well, the Doctor quoted a statistic saying that almost 90% of individuals believe in a higher power and “turn to spiritual beliefs, religious practices and congregational support when ill.”
So the panel deliberates: does spirituality affect health and illness? In what ways? If you’re interested, have something to say, or just want to see a pretty good movie, check it out. Afterwards there will be some sort of discussion, and there’s a guide you can find on their website:

Oh yeah… the showing is of The Green Mile. It stars Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan among others. The run time is 188 minutes and, not to ruin anything, it’s about a death row inmate who has the power of faith healing. The tagline that ran on posters (according to the trusty Internet Movie Database) is “Miracles Do Happen.”
Do they?
More to come…
