ESPN Radio Sporstcaster Suspended for Anti-Semitic Comments
February 10, 2008 by C.J. Trent
ESPN Radio has recently suspended radio sportscaster, Chet Coppock, over anti-semitic remarks made on the air.
When asked how to spell Jewish, Coppock replied, “Money, M-O-N-E-Y.”
Coppock is following the trend of making offensive, if not insensitive remarks on public radio and television. The trend started last April with Don Imus’s comment on the Rutger’s women’s basketball team. Recent offensive comments have been made by Kelly Tilghman of the Golf Channel regarding Tiger Woods; she jokingly remarked that he should be “lynched in a back alley.” Golfweek editor Dave Seanor then included a noose on a cover story about Tilghman. He was later fired.
Whether America has become more sensitive or media personalities are more offensive remains to be seen; the question is, why do questionable comments continue to be made?
