A 1,000-year-old Byzantine cross that is insured for $37 million has been stolen from a church in Tournai, Belgium.
After attacking tourists and church attendants, the robbers broke the protective glass surrounding the cross and took off.
The gold and gem-bedecked cross is believed to contain a relic from the original cross of Jerusalem.

The Associated Press reports that most American churches reported that they experienced no growth in membership and some even lost members. The findings are part of the Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches, a publication that tracks membership of 224 nationwide churches, according to the article.
